Friends of the North Kent Marshes
Friends of North Kent Marshes is a group for all who want to help celebrate,
enhance and protect the North Kent Marshes
Formed in 2004 out of the No airport at Cliffe Campaign Liaison Group, the
group works both with the local communities that live on and around the
Marshes, and with organisations such as the RSPB as they develop flagship
visitor sites here.
Membership is free — members receive a quarterly newsletter by email, or by
post on supply of stamped-addressed envelopes. The group is run entirely
voluntarily and holds no funds.

How far have we come
The Government's public consultation into the future of aviation in South
East closed on 30th June.
What happens now?
The Government will now look at all the responses and aim to make a decision
by the end of the year as to where a new airport or runways will go, or
indeed if any are needed at all. The response comes out in what is called a
White Paper.
Is there anything to do between now and the release of the White Paper?
Although Government will no longer take account of any further consultation
responses, there is no harm in continuing to write to the Secretary of State
for Transport or to your MP to keep the issue at the forefront of their
thinking. Let them know we are still here; after all we are still living under
a shadow of
their making.
If the Cliffe option, or any Thames estuarine option, is in the White
Paper, the CLG will:
Continue with its mission to assist and help co-ordinate all campaigners and
campaign groups in their fight to stop the building of an airport in
whatever way necessary, e.g. as the decision is legally challenged through
the British and European courts.
If the Cliffe option and all Thames options are ruled out in the White
Paper, the CLG will:
Fight wherever necessary for the protection of North Kent's
environmental and cultural heritage.
Seek greater recognition of North Kent's environmental and cultural
heritage in order to establish the moral case for protection to complement
the legal protection
Continue to develop links between conservation and community groups in
North Kent for the benefit of people and wildlife, and for the development
of 'green tourism' in North Kent.
The CLG is run entirely as a non-profit-making group by volunteers from
North Kent. It achieves its aims by acting as a conduit for information and
interaction between the various groups fighting for the same ends, from
national organisations to local interest groups to individuals.
